I noticed this during NBCSN's coverage of qualifying this week. Check out the Santander logo on Alonso's wing mirror. Just a simple drop shadow, a really harsh one actually, but I think it works here pretty well.
I'm not sure how common drop shadows and other skeuomorphic design queues are in racing liveries. (Please share any examples please!) I've been doing it for a while now on all of my cars in Forza. I think more liveries need this kind of treatment.

The drop shadow has been there for as long as Santander has sponsored Ferrari, since 2010 when they still had the not-so-hidden Marlboro logo.
It's even there on the Gran Turismo version of the F10:

I watch so much F1, I no longer see the logos.

Ha, I hear you. Fortunately (/unfortunately ?) I'm a graphic designer so all I see everywhere is just logos and composition...
I think that's why I loved the Brawn GP car. Very minimal so you got to enjoy the actual design of the car more.

You are most definitely correct. It's just a part of the Santander logo. Still would be really cool to see other design elements achieve more visual depth.
